Posted

Wednesday, March 26 — This weekend, you can get ahead on spring cleaning and clean out your garage, basement or attic and recycle your unwanted items for free. On Saturday, the Ingham County Health Department hosts the 5th annual Recycle Rama, the largest free recycling event in Lansing.

“It’s meant to provide residents with a chance to responsibly and locally recycle materials that they couldn’t normally,” said Lori Welch, Environmental Specialist for the City of Lansing. Electronics (including TVs and computers), household batteries, clothing, shoes, unwanted medication, appliances, scrap metal and more will be accepted at no cost.

Welch said the event collects an upwards of a couple hundred thousand pounds of recyclable material, with the majority being electronics, e-waste.

The collected material is sent off through many different vendors to be recycled, refurbished or resold.
