Bernero administration will present budget information from Monday committee meeting again on Thursday after locked doors kept public out of meeting

Tuesday, April 1 — At least one member of the public and a City Pulse reporter were mistakenly locked out of a Lansing City Council committee meeting Monday night due to a miscommunication with City Hall security. A budget presentation that took place during Monday night’s meeting will be presented again on Thursday morning, the administration said today.
“Although no decisions were made and no votes taken at the meeting, in the interest of open government, Mayor Bernero and President (A’Lynne) Boles have agreed to revisit the FY 15 budget information that was presented by the administration during last night’s meeting,” Bernero’s chief of staff, Randy Hannan, said in an email today.
That is scheduled to come during the Council’s Committee of the Whole meeting on Thursday at 10 a.m. at City Hall.
Boles issued a statement this morning saying that City Hall security mistakenly told two visitors (including one City Pulse reporter) that Monday night’s budget overview meeting was not open to the public. The guard told City Pulse that a private “training session” was being held that night for Council members.
Email communications from Council staff last week advertised the budget overview was open to the public.
“We acknowledge that even with these measures taken, a situation can arise, and we apologize for any inconvenience or difficulty this may have caused,” Boles wrote. “We are working with City Hall security to prevent anything like this happening again in the future.”
Hannan also said the administration takes responsibility for the miscommunication between Council staff and security personnel.
