Thursday, April 3 — While Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero was tempted to try and fix a culture of divisive politics in Washington, he will not pursue an open Congressional seat to try and fix it.

Bernero announced on Tim Barron’s radio show this morning, as well as on his Facebook page, that he will not campaign for the 8th Congressional District seat being vacated by Republican Rep. Mike Rogers.

“So much is broken about Washington that it is tempting for me to contemplate a future trying to fix it,” Bernero announced on his Facebook page this morning.%u2028%u2028“But my heart and my creative energies are committed to Lansing and its continued growth.%u2028%u2028“I will not seek the open 8th district congressional seat this year. Many thanks to each of my supporters who weighed in on this matter.”

Bernero said earlier this week he was considering running. Two other Democrats thinking about it include Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum and Ingham County Treasurer Eric Schertzing.
