Tuesday, May 13 — Tickets go on sale Wednesday for the second annual Lansing Beer Fest.

Starting at 10 a.m., tickets will be available for the REO Town event, which will be held on Saturday, June 28.

Tickets purchased in advance will be $30; day-of pricing will be $35. The price includes 10 tasting tickets as well as a 6-ounce glass decorated with the event logo. Each ticket is worth a 3-ounce pour from a selection of over 100 Michigan craft beers and hard ciders.

The fest is hosted by two organizations. I’m a Beer Hound, a Michigan beer news website and event promoter; and Motor City Brew Tours, who create bus, bike and walking tours for Michigan breweries.

Steve Johnson, founder of Motor City Brew Tours, said the amount of breweries featured at the event doubled from last year. This year there are 32 breweries participating, including Bell’s Brewery, Short’s Brewing Co. and EagleMonk Pub and Brewery.

“We had great guests who had fun and were appreciative for doing something outside in the summer,” said Johnson of last year’s festivities. “We were excited that people really wanted something like that in Lansing.”

Another change to this year’s festival will be the closing down of Washington Avenue between South and Elm streets. I’m a Beer Hound’s founder Paul Starr said last year’s festival had a turnout of 400 people in its parking lot venue. This year they are expecting 1,500 guests.

In addition to beer tasting, Starr says there will also be food and live music, a combination he called “the total package.” Johnson, however, is happy keeping the focus on the beer.

“That’s what we care about and that’s why people come,” Johnson said.

The Lansing Beer Fest will conclude Lansing Beer Week, which Friday, June 20 at Old Town’s Festival of the Moon. This weeklong event is intended to showcase Michigan craft beer while stimulating the local economy. Proceeds from the Lansing Beer Fest will go to the REO Town Commercial Association to develop businesses in the area.

The fest also offers a $5 designated driver ticket for people who want to attend but do not plan on drinking. VIP tickets can also be purchased in advanced for $35, which will give guests 15 tasting tickets and early admission to the festival at noon.
