Included among light hybrid styles will be cream ales, blonde ales, kölsch brews and American wheat or rye. For American ales the categories include pale ales, amber ales and American brown ales. The IPA subcategories include English, American and Imperial varieties.

Winners will be determined by 10 judges, the certified beer judges will be paired with the not-so-certified to teach about homebrew contests.

“We wanted to take our customers along with us on the learning journey,” Charles Garwood, the event organizer said. “So we can teach people what it is like, what it takes and what you have to do.”

Admission to the Hopped-Up Homebrew Awards is free from 5-9 p.m. and will feature live music from Lansing band, Billiards Music.
