Decker’s Coffee closes

Owner claims downtown Lansing business will reopen, but no date set

Posted

Friday, May 30 — After a year under new ownership, Decker’s Coffee Co., also known as Cup of Dessert, closed for business today at 2 p.m. The closing was announced on the business’ Facebook page Thursday:

“This Friday around 2pm we will begin moving this location. Despite rumors this deal was reached at. 6pm (Thursday). We have a verbal agreement to stay in the area but it's pending a few loopholes.”

No new location or reopen date was announced. The business phone line was disconnected and owner/operator J.T. Dachtler did not return a message left on his cell phone.

Dachtler, 35, bought Decker’s from founder Jessica Decker last May. Decker, 31, opened the café in 2007 at 220 S. Washington Square in downtown Lansing. She now works for Sysco Grand Rapids, a food product sales and distribution company.

“I’m sad to see the location go, but I wish him the best,” Decker said by private message.

The Decker’s/Cup of Dessert Facebook page said that gift card/certificate holders can still utilize their balances for coffee bean purchases made on the business’ website, cupofdessert.com.
