A slice of comedy

Connxtions Comedy Club auctioning off memorabilia, equipment and more

Posted
FRIDAY, June 20 — From the windows to the walls to the handicap bathroom stalls, Connxtions Comedy Club will be selling every last bit of its property in an auction on Tuesday.

After closing the doors at its location on 2900 N. East St., in April, owner and operator Frank Stevens decided to put up every piece of the renowned comedy venue for sale.

Some of the items up for sale? The half-boat mounted on the ceiling, all Connxtions’ intellectual property — including comedians’ contact information — signed memorabilia, a heating and cooling system, a vintage cigarette dispenser and more.

The auction will be held at the building itself and online from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The online auction will be hosted on orbitbid.com. On Monday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., interested buyers can preview items at the club. Throughout its 30 years, the venue has hosted big-name comedians like Sinbad, Tim Allen, and Bobcat Goldthwait. Stevens said the building has been sold to a national chain that plans to tear it down, but declined to name the company.

Stevens hopes to find a new venue to host Connxtions and has a couple leads, but nothing set in stone. He said his Connxtions location in Toledo, Ohio, which closed late last year, would not reopen. Along with all intellectual property for sale on Tuesday, the online auction states that, “[The] seller has agreed to assist the winning bidder for a few weeks with training and assistance.”

“I’d like to semi-retire," Stevens said. "I’d like to partner with someone and pass it on."
