FRIDAY, NOV. 14 – The Open Door Ministry needs help providing a Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless and low-income families.
The dinner will be held next Thursday, Nov. 20 at 11:30 a.m.
Bobbi Morris, executive director, said she expects to serve more than 300 meals that day because another shelter closed recently.
Open Door Ministry, a daily day shelter, prepares the Thanksgiving meal in its facility in the basement of Central United Methodist Church on Capitol Avenue.
But this year they’re coming up a little short on all the ingredients needed for the meal.
Morris said Open Door Ministry needs:
Seven turkeys (accepted frozen through Nov. 17, afterward unfrozen)
30 pies
30 1lb bags of brown gravy (Gordon Food Service)
37 boxes of stuffing
The meal is offered to homeless and low-income families. The shelter offers lunch every Thursday, but it will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, so the meal is being offered a week ahead.
The ministry offers a variety of services including counseling, storage room, showers, personal toiletries, clothing, a mailing address and more.
