Bishop reviewing Lansing field office

Posted
U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers may be from Livingston County, but he kept a toehold in the Lansing area by locating his district office in the city, for several years on Michigan Avenue and later at 1000 W. St. Joseph.

The plans of Rogers´ replacement in the 8th Congressional District are not as definite. Congressman-Elect Mike Bishop said last week he still hasn´t made up his mind where he wants to put the field office considering the district´s new geography.

Bishop, of Rochester, said he would keep a Lansing office open initially as he eases into his new position, but down the road that could change as he looks at his budget and the needs of the entire district.

Prior configurations had Lansing as the population center, of sorts of a sprawling 8th Congressional District. The new district stretches from northern Oakland County to the city of Lansing, meaning if a Rochester constituent, for example, wanted to visit the field office, he or she could be looking at a two-hour car ride.

A more central location for both Ingham County and Oakland County constituents would be Livingston County, but Bishop stressed he has not made a final decision on the subject.
