Three finalists chosen for Ingham County Register of Deeds

TUESDAY, JAN., 27 — A committee of three top Ingham County elected officials whittled a list of 12 applicants down to three to replace Curtis Hertel Jr. as register of deeds at a meeting this morning at the Grady Porter building in downtown Lansing.

The three finalists are Lansing Councilman Derrick Quinney, Lansing Councilwoman Carol Wood and Ingham County Commissioner Carol Koenig.

The committee, required by state law, is made up of Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum, Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III and Ingham County Chief Probate Judge Richard Garcia. This committee, by law, will select and appoint the replacement.

The 12 applicants included Wood and Quinney and two Ingham County Commissioners, a Lansing School Board member and a township clerk.

The others were:  Evan Hope, Timothy Carr, Guillermo Lopez, Ryan Maloney, Terri Retzloff-Layman, Kari Vivoda, Alan Fox, Lashonda Lambrecht, and Randy Schater.

Byrum said no fixed date has been set on when the committee will appoint the new register of deeds.
