Why is physical fitness important in your life?:

I've seen the difference staying fit can make in a person’s life. Keeping muscles trained keeps the body’s posture correct. Have you ever seen an older person whose shoulders are rolled forward? That is due to the back muscles not being strong enough to keep the shoulders pulled back. The chest muscles are pulling the shoulders forward and the back is not strong enough to fight for correct posture. I have also had many clients who have problems sleeping due to lower back pain. This caused by spinal erectors not being strong enough to support the body on the soft mattresses we have today. Once they strengthen, back pain goes away. Energy levels are also higher. I feel good both internally and externally about my self-image.

Describe your fitness routine:

I train at Powerhouse Gym in East Lansing. I train five to seven days a week, depending on whether I’m prepping for a show/photo shoot or am just trying to maintain. I train in splits that may go something like this: Day one, back and chest; day two, legs; day three, shoulders, traps, triceps, and biceps; day four, abs, calves and very light cardio (about 10 minutes on stair machine); day 5, start the rotation over. I do higher volume training, so I’m aiming to keep reps between 12-20. I do about four sets per exercise, sometimes more if I’m really feeling good. I do about 15-20 sets per muscle group.

How do you stay motivated to maintain your fitness?

It's hard to stay motivated. To be honest, most days I don’t want to go to the gym. But I LOVE to eat. I eat around 5,000 calories a day, and not just chicken and rice. I eat pizza, I eat ice cream, I eat oceans of sushi. I can do this every day because I train hard. As long as you’re willing to work for it, you can have it.
