FRIDAY, AUG. 21 — The Greater Lansing Food Bank got a financial boost today in the form of a $3,672.50 check — the proceeds from this year’s Capital Area Restaurant Week.

Ann Marie Pooler and Shannon Jakovac, representatives from event sponsor Earthy Delights and Jan Pfeiffer from event sponsor the Greater Lansing Convention & Visitors Bureau were on hand to present the check, and representatives from media sponsors City Pulse and WILX were in attendance as well.

“We are extremely grateful,” said Kim Diane Shapiro, Greater Lansing Food Bank external relations manager. “This check will help produce 28,000 meals.”

The Greater Lansing Food Bank is a local nonprofit that provides emergency food orders for individuals in need in Lansing and the surrounding areas. The group delivered over 6.5 million pounds of food throughout a seven-county area in 2012.

Eighteen restaurants participated this year, offering specially-priced three-course meals during the week-long event, and 10 percent of all proceeds from the meals were donated to the Greater Lansing Food Bank.

“We are very thankful for all the restaurants and diners that participated,” said Shapiro.
