Here's what's going on in town today

Good day and happy Friday.

A normally spooky story is taking on a funny twist with the Mid-Michigan Family Theatre's production of 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.'

Music and comedy are added to the classic tale of Ichabod Crane, originally written as a short story by Washington Irving in 1820. When Crane goes missing one night after a failed marriage proposal, rumors — and ghost stories — circulate rapidly around the tiny town of Sleepy Hollow.

The show will run from today until Sunday. Today and tomorrow's shows begin at 7 p.m., and Sunday's performance is at 3 p.m.

$7 Adults, $5 Seniors/Children. Mid-Michigan Family Theatre, 3448 Hagadorn, Okemos. 517-339-2145, mmft.org.

If Sleepy Hollow is too scary for you, you can always
break out your black tie for a good cause at the Northwest Initiative’s “Jazz Iz” Fundraiser.

The evening will feature traditional and contemporary jazz, delivered by songstress and Lansing native Ramona Collins and pianist Glenn Tucker. To set the mood, guests are asked to dress in black and white attire.

A minimum donation of $50 is required for entry, which includes two glasses of beer or wine and light refreshments. Proceeds from the event will benefit local nonprofit community development organization Northwest Initiative, which provides emergency services and empowerment programs for low-income Lansing residents.

6-9 p.m. $50. Potter House, 1348 Cambridge Road, Lansing. (517) 999-2894, tinyurl.com/p74zz45.
