'Time to brew beer again'

Lansing Brewing Co. to open Thursday

Posted

FRIDAY, Oct. 16 — “It’s time to brew beer again,” proclaims a mural on the side of the soon-to-open Lansing Brewing Co. While the brewery isn’t open yet, its brewers are hard at work preparing for the grand opening, which got an official date last night.

The brewery, located in the Stadium District at the corner of Cedar and Shiawassee streets, announced via social media that it will open to the public 11 a.m. Thursday.

Jake VanAtta, sales and marketing manager for the brewery, said that the bar will feature 12 beers on tap. It will also offer a full menu, wine and its own brand of liquor — Hardnose Spirits — on the opening day.

The brewery takes its name from the defunct Lansing Brewing Co., a pre-Prohibition brewery located in Lansing’s Old Town, and incorporates much of the old brewery’s history into the new establishment. The beer lineup includes Amber Cream Ale, the old brewery’s flagship beer.

The new Lansing Brewing Co. also features a beer with a more modern inspiration. Its Angry Mayor IPA is a tongue-in-cheek jab at Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero.

Sawyer Stevens, head brewer at Lansing Brewing Co., is looking forward to opening the doors to the public next week.

“I think people are excited about it,” he said. “It’s something that’s missing here in downtown Lansing. People are really anticipating the opening.”
