FRIDAY, Jan. 22 — Amtrak will begin using the new transportation center in East Lansing Monday “at long last,” CATA announced today.

The Capital Area Multimodal Gateway off Harrison Road has been opened several weeks, but the rail line is still using its old station nearby, causing consternation to passengers. CATA, the regional bus company, operates the new transportation facility.

A CATA press release says Amtrak will use the old station until the 8:45 a.m. departure of the Blue Water to Chicago. Passengers will start using the new station with the 8:54 p.m. departure of the Blue Water to Port Huron.

Besides CATA buses, MegaBus, Greyhound and Indian Trails are already using the new center.

“Amtak’s move will allow us to complete the demolition of the old station and construction of the parking lot,” Sandra Draggoo, CATA’s executive director, said.
