P.J.s — Mike’s Sports Page

Posted

Many days I find myself craving P.J.s from Mike’s Sports Page in Charlotte — and I am not the only one. Just ask anyone who has moved away from Charlotte.

It’s hard to explain P.J.s, but they are, at least in my book, the perfect fried food. This addiction of mine starts out as dough cut into bite size rectangles. They are then perfectly deep-fried until they are crispy golden on the outside yet still chewy on the inside. Finally, they are sprinkled with garlic and salt and served with hot and mild cheese sauces.

Charlotte folks have practically grown up with P.J.s — they have been on the menu through several years and owners. The current owner, Mike Rodocker, added a twist to make P.J.s into a meal. The dish is called Pancho Nachos. Imagine beef or chicken nachos topped with cheese, diced onions, lettuce, tomatoes, black olives and jalapenos — but instead of tortilla chips, it is made with P.J.s. This twist on nachos has just the right amount of grease, salt and spice to satisfy.

P.J.s are available in half and full orders, but trust me, you will want the full order.
