Lansing 5:01 kicks off with free concert

TUESDAY, June 14 — Lansing 5:01 is out to prove that Greater Lansing is vibrant after 5 p.m. It’s kicking off it’s efforts with a concert tonight that starts at — you guessed it — 5:01 p.m.

The new initiative, which aims to connect college students and young professionals with the Lansing community, is expecting a crowd of over 500 people for tonight’s kickoff event. The free event will take place on the patio between the Lansing City Market and the river and includes live music by Joe Hertler & the Rainbow Seekers and Nigel and the Dropout. This party also features kayak rides, food trucks and more.

The goal of Lansing 5:01 goal is to attract young professionals, expanding the creative workforce within Lansing,

“We know that Metro Lansing’s future economic strength depends on our success today in attracting and retaining the young talent that comes here for our extraordinary institutions of higher learning,” said Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero. “Lansing 5:01 is a great way to show young people the best of Metro Lansing and to highlight not just key employers in our region, but the outstanding quality of life we have to offer.”

Christopher Sell, internship developer at Michigan State University and founder of Lansing 5:01, is excited to give Greater Lansing students and residents opportunities to network and see what Lansing has to offer.

“Lansing 5:01 aims to show interns and young professionals the many quality of life opportunities available in Metro Lansing through programming and networking opportunities,” Sell said. “This program will definitely bring new levels of engagement with the young folks of our region.”
