Blaze Pizza opens in Frandor today, offers free pizza tomorrow

MONDAY, June 20 — More good news for LeBron James fans: You can celebrate last night’s NBA championship with a pizza from Blaze Fast Fire’d Pizza, of which the basketball star is part owner.

Often compared to Chipotle, Blaze Pizza, which opens its newest location in Frandor at 11 a.m. today, is a fast casual pizza joint that uses open-flame ovens to cooks its personal pizzas in just three minutes. The restaurant takes over the space at 300 N. Clippert St. formerly occupied by Video To Go.

“Our mission at Blaze is really simple — we’re taking pizza back to its roots,“ said Jim Mizes, president and COO of Blaze Pizza. “By making dough in-house, carefully sourcing ingredients and cooking by fire, we’re giving guests a great way to enjoy artisanal pizza without the wait.”

To celebrate the grand opening of its Frandor location, the restaurant will offer free build-your-own pizzas to anyone who follows Blaze Pizza on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. The offer is valid tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The record for free Blaze pizzas given out in one day is 2,100, and the company is hoping to surpass that with tomorrow’s promotion.

The quickly growing chain opened its first location in Irvine, Calif., in 2012, offering its thin-crust, custom-made pizzas, as well as signature items like blood orange lemonade and s'mores pies. The restaurant features an interactive, open kitchen that allows guests to customize their pizza with a variety of fresh ingredients mostly free of artificial flavors, colors, preservatives and fillers and then watch them cook in the open-flame ovens.

The company operates 141 restaurants in the U.S. and Canada. The new Lansing-area location is 3,300 square feet and seats 61 people indoors with an additional 58 seats on its patio. With Blaze Pizza also offers a restaurant fundraiser program and plans to partner up with local schools, sports clubs and other organizations to host fundraising events.
