MONDAY, June 20 — Much of Lansing’s recent entrepreneurial growth has been driven by three Bs: breakfast, barbecue and beer. A pair of local business are hoping to add another B into that mix: bikes. More specifically, party bikes.
Earlier this year, Capital City Bike-n-Brew announced it would be turning two party bikes loose on the streets of Lansing and East Lansing. These 15-seat mega-bikes carry passengers on a prearranged tour of local watering holes.
Last week, Joyride Pedal Tours made its debut in Lansing. Founded by entrepreneur Molly Chan, Joyride Pedal Tours will offer trips from hubs in Lansing, Williamston and East Lansing.
“We’re excited to get this out on the streets of Lansing,” Chan said at a Friday ribbon-cutting ceremony.
In addition to beer-and-bar-focused tours, Joyride also offers entertainment tours like an MSU sightseeing tour and a Lansing architecture tour, as well as culinary tours and fitness classes. All tours last approximately two hours, and customers and personalize tours.
Tours cost $350 for a two-hour excursion Friday through Sunday and $300 Tuesday through Thursday. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed on the bikes, but participants can bring soft drinks and complimentary water is provided. A minimum of eight people is required for a tour.
Joyride Pedal Tours hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its Lansing party bike Friday at Lansing Brewing Co. Similar ribbon-cuttings are planned for its Williamston and East Lansing bikes.
“I don’t think I’ve done a ribbon cutting for anything on wheels,” joked Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero. “We’re excited for investors like Molly who are blazing new trails in Metro Lansing.”
