Run in the sun

Tropical-themed Color Run hits Lansing tomorrow

Posted

FRIDAY, July 7 — With temps in the mid-80s and crazy humidity, it’s feeling a little bit tropical around here. Tomorrow you can lean into that feeling with the Color Run, which brings temporary sandy beaches and fake palm trees to Lansing’s waterfront.

The popular touring 5K event brings its 2016 tour, “The Color Run Tropicolor World Tour,” to Adado Riverfront Park tomorrow, kicking off at 9:00 a.m. The course features the new Tropicolor Zone, combining a 5K run with an island-style atmosphere. As always, Color Runners will be splashed with vivid colors — and newly added island scents — every kilometer they pass through different color zones.

“We want people to be happy and healthy, and the Color Run does just that,” said Al Munoz, the event’s director. “We are excited to come to Lansing and give Color Runners the opportunity to step into paradise with us and enjoy a 5K vacation that only the Color Run can create,”

After crossing the finish line, Color Runners can relax at Rainbow Beach for the Finish Festival, an interactive island party featuring music, dancing, unique photo opportunities and more color throws.

"We call Color Run the happiest 5K in the planet,” Munoz said. “It's really fun, and we're happy to be in Lansing."

Although the deluxe packages are sold out, participants can still purchase the classic color runner package. The $44.99 package includes entry to the Color Run, a limited edition t-shirt, an embroidered headband, a finisher's medal, a color packet and tattoos. Interested runners are encouraged to buy their package soon because the event is nearly sold out. The Lansing Color Run benefits Kelleigh's Cause, a nonprofit that raises awareness and funds for arteriovenous malformation research.
