Good day on this first day of August.
As the summer winds down, you may be preparing for one last summer camping hurrah. One site to check out in order to sharpen your outdoor skills is the Michigan Historical Museum. There, the interactive exhibit Inventing the Outdoors allows visitors to construct their own lean-to shelter, sing around a fire pit and share outdoor experiences with others. The exhibit examines the work of late-nineteenth-century outdoorsman Webster Marvel, whose outdoor products outfitted Teddy Roosevelt's hunts and Charles Lindburgh's flights. Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Sunday 1-5 p.m. Included in museum admission: $2-$6, kids FREE. Michigan Historical Museum, 702 W. Kalamazoo St., Lansing. michigan.gov/mhc.
