What's up in Lansing: Broad Museum artist talk and more

Here's what's going on in town today

Posted

Good day on this late-summer Tuesday.

In her exhibit at the Broad Art Museum, “To Be Here,” British artist Sam Jury explores the idea of “suspended trauma,” the concept of filming a traumatic environment and allowing it to replay in a distant context. “To Be Here” is an audio-visual installation featuring films made by Jury during her two-week stay at a refugee camp near Tindouf, Algeria. The work documents the daily lives of the refugees accompanied by narration from a young girl who lives in the camp. Jury’s discussion of the piece is part of the One Book, One Community project, a joint effort between MSU and the City of East Lansing. This year, the project’s focus is immigration and refugee issues. 7 p.m. FREE. Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, 547 E. Circle Drive, East Lansing. (517) 884-3900, broadmuseum.msu.edu.
