Ingham County Animal Control offers no-fee adoptions for veterans

Posted

TUESDAY, Nov. 8 — In honor of Veterans Day and to and thank the men and women of Ingham County who have served our country, Ingham County Animal Control (ICAC) is offering no fee pet adoptions to veterans on Nov. 8, 9, 10 and 12 at the animal control shelter in Mason. The shelter will be closed on Nov. 11 to commemorate the holiday.

“Coming from a military family — my father was in the army — I know first-hand how much veterans and their families have sacrificed to protect our country and our values,” said Teresa Carter, ICAC’s Office Coordinator.

No fee adoptions for veterans, like all adoptions from ICAC, are subject to approval by shelter staff. Veterans must be Ingham County residents and show proof of military service to qualify, and no fee adoptions are limited to one dog or up to two cats.

Ingham County Animal Control Shelter is open noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. The shelter will be closed on Friday, November 11 in honor of Veterans Day. Adoptable animals are featured on the shelter’s website, ac.ingham.org.

“Nothing we can do can ever truly repay them for their service,” Carter said. “Honoring them by offering free adoptions is the least we can do to thank the county’s veterans for all they have done.”
