MSU Federal Credit Union’s latest project is putting a spotlight on young talent. This year’s MSU Federal Credit Union Student Art Exhibit features art from 19 Mid-Michigan high schools, the most ever for this event.

“We are so excited to host this event again for the 10th year,” said April Clobes, CEO of MSUFCU. “Our local students always amaze me every year with how talented they are. With more schools involved, we are sure to have the best year yet.”

The 19 schools may showcase up to 10 pieces of artwork. This year’s participating high schools are Bath, Charlotte, Dansville, DeWitt, East Lansing, Eaton Rapids, Everett, Fowlerville, Grand Ledge, Haslett, Holt, Lansing Catholic, Lansing Christian, Mason, Okemos, St. Johns, Waverly, Webberville and Williamston.

The public is invited to view students’ artwork and cast a vote for their favorite piece. Votes help determine the People’s Choice Awards and a School Spirit Award, given to the high school that draws the most votes. Participants can also view the artwork and vote online at msufcuart.com or on the MSUFCU Art Exhibit Facebook page.

Prizes for the People’s Choice awards are $300 for first place winners, $200 for second place winners and $100 for third place winners. There are also juried awards, which offer $300 for first place winners, $200 for second place winners and $100 for third place winners, as well as smaller cash prizes for 10 honorable mentions. One student will also be awarded a $50 Social Media Award for gaining the most “likes” on the MSUFCU Student Art Exhibit Facebook page. The winners will be announced at a Feb. 23 awards ceremony.

This year’s panel of judges features Kimberly Lavon, an East Lansing fine art printmaker and gallery owner; Andrew Sandstedt, a Lansing-based artist who creates sculptures from scraps and junk; and Julian Van Dyke, fine artist who has painted murals in Lansing schools for the last 10 years.

The public is invited visit the exhibit in the lobby of the MSUFCU Headquarters during normal business hours.

“I hope everyone is able to visit this year and cast their votes for their favorite pieces,” Clobes said.
