On this day: Today, is Niccolo Machiavelli's birthday (born in 1469), take a few minutes to celebrate and remember the famous Italian writer and and philosopher. Not sure you remember why he was so important? Here's more about Machiavelli.

Meditation has had many proven physical health and psychological benefits. Today try a class on Mindfulness that shows you how to approach meditation for beginners as well as for those who might be experienced. 7-9 p.m. Chua Van Hanh Temple, 3015 S. Washington Ave., Lansing.
