Personal Pizza - Detroit Frankie’s Wood Fired Brick Oven

Posted

Having grown up in the Metro Detroit area, I like to the think I know Detroit-style pizza. That was not what I received at Detroit Frankie’s, but I will be the last to complain.

For a reasonable $17, you can be the proud owner of a 16-inch pie. Instead of a square, thick, crunchy, deep dish, you’ll be presented with a brick oven-fired pizza with a thin, chewy, crust, loaded high with your favorite toppings.

I went with a friend and constructed a pepperoni, onion, black olive and fresh mozzarella-laden colossus. Even with the many toppings however, no one element overpowered the flavor of the whole.

After the first slice, we decided to stop lying to ourselves — there would be no leftovers the next day. We scarfed the whole thing down on the drive home.

Located right out front of Ozone’s Brewhouse, Detroit Frankie’s can be easy to miss, but it’s a hidden, pizza-shaped gem right here in Lansing. The stand is open yearround, even in the coldest weather, serving up blazing hot, topping-laden pizza.
