One Eaton County and three Ingham County residences were raided as part of a dog fighting and animal cruelty investigation on July 27. Lansing Police, the Eaton County Sheriff Department and the Ingham Regional Special Response Team executed search warrants and worked together to seize a total of 26 dogs and other evidence.

Ingham County Animal Control Director John Dinon called the enforcement activities a “team effort” and a “model of interdepartmental collaboration” in a press release.

“Animal cruelty and animal fighting are serious crimes,” Dinon said. “It is great that Eaton County Animal Control partnered with us to act on evidence we found as part of our investigation in our own county. We are also very grateful to the indispensable support we received from local law enforcement.”

Lansing Police Capt. Darin Southworth said one of the Ingham County homes to be raided on the 1400 block of Lansing Avenue, contained “approximately five” dogs.

Although suspects have been taken into custody, no official arrests have been made yet according to Southworth.

“I’ve seen animals in comparable condition and I’ve seen animals in far worse condition,” Southworth said. “I think their investigation is worthwhile in my humble opinion.”

Southworth said the police department has been involved since the morning of July 27.
