What's up in Lansing: AJ Cooke Exhibit

Posted

With only two days left in AJ Cooke’s exhibition, now is the time to catch the metro-Detroit-based artist’s work. Cooke’s “Remnants” series is a series of drawings and paintings that are fragmented. When placed together, these remnants can be reinterpreted to infer new meaning.

In her artist statement, Cooke talks about the human need to “compulsively find pattern and organize information.” It is this mental connection that Cooke says can be “exploited and epistemologically portrayed by an image.”

And indeed, her pieces are formed of many different fragments. Cooke earned her bachelor of arts from Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan, in 2011. She then went on to earn her masters of fine arts from Kendall College of Art and Design in 2015.

Since graduating, she has been featured in more than 20 exhibitions across the state and the country.

Remnants, (SCENE)Metrospace. AJ Cooke art show. 12 - 12 a.m. FREE. (SCENE) Metrospace, 110 Charles St. East Lansing. 517-432-3961.
