What's up in Lansing: Rugby

Posted

Interested in learning a new sport or joining a team? The Capital Area Crisis Rugby Football Club might be for you! Founded in 2013, the team has been playing the nearly 200-year-old sport in the Lansing area in hopes of raising awareness of the sport locally.

The sport is played similarly to American football. A match consists of two, 40-minute halves and both teams compete to see who can score the most points in a given match. A key difference in rugby and American football include a ball that cannot be passed forward, though players themselves can move forward.

“The club’s mission is to build rugby in Lansing and give back to other Lansing clubs and the Lansing department of recreation,” their website says.

Even if you’re not a rugby player now, beginners are always welcome to join the sport.
