Friday, June 29 @ Mac’s Bar, 2700 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. 18kknd, $12/$10 adv., 9 p.m.

Since the late 1990s, Cardiac Arrest has been a fixture in the Chicago death-metal scene. While the band’s lineup has changed over the last two decades, it’s still managed to release four albums and a handful of singles, including a couple split 7-inches. Last year, Transcending Records re-issued the band’s 2006 debut full-length LP, “Morgue Mutilations,” on both black and “blood red” vinyl. June 29, the band returns to Mac’s Bar to headline a night of heavy music hosted by GrindHouse Ministries. Openers include Centenary, Isenblåst and Residivis. Fans of the defunct Lansing band Genocya might want to check out Centenary’s set—the Roseville-based band features Genocya alumni Jim Albrecht and Matt Cunningham. Old-school headbangers who dig Entombed, Dismember, Obituary or Cianide will be pleased. Sample the band’s discography at centenary.bandcamp.com.

Saturday, June 23 @ Tequila Cowboy, 5660 W. Saginaw Hwy, Lansing. 21kknd, FREE, 8 p.m.

Country singer-songwriter Ben Gallaher, a Sony Music Nashville recording artist, performs a free show Saturday at Tequila Cowboy inside the Lansing Mall. Back in August, the Pennsylvania native dropped his self-titled debut EP—which includes the husky-voiced ballad “Against the World.” The track is a follow up to his last single, the upbeat country-rocker “Last Train” (2014). Gallaher, 26, who picked up a guitar at age 6, moved to Nashville to attend Belmont University and by 2014 graduated with an entertainment industry studies degree. While at Belmont, a professor sent Gallaher’s demo to Sony Music and a record deal followed. Soon after, he was opening dates for honky-tonk headliners like Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, Lee Brice, Parmalee, and Brantley Gilbert. Aside from playing festivals and venues, each year Gallaher also performs at state prisons on his annual “Barbed Tour.”

The music and street fair happens in the heart of REO Town (1100 block of S. Washington Avenue) with one main outdoor stage and various other pop-up sets.
