These Lansing photographers went print exclusive in the digital age.

Celebrate Khalid Ibrahim and Sean Gleason’s collaborative photography book, “Together Alone,” available for purchase with different writings in every copy.

“In a world where there is nothing tactile and we are living on a digital screen, people still appreciate something to hold and take home,” said Ibrahim.

On exhibit at Blue Owl Coffee for the last month, Ibrahim’s work features photos from the distant lands of Saudi Arabia, London, Paris and South Africa. Gleason chose rustbelt standards like Detroit, Minneapolis and Chicago.

The images emphasize a disconnect and a connection at the same time, Ibrahim said.

An image exemplifying this theme in the book is of a bunch of people in a row sitting on their smartphones.

“They are coming together, but alone in their own world of phones. It looks like a row of people doing the same act.”

This isn’t the first time Ibrahim made waves in the Lansing photography community.

Starting a Kickstarter fund in 2015, Ibrahim sought to raise funds to print his film on postcards with a goal of $750. With 93 backers, he raised over $3,500.

“I have an incredible support from the Lansing community. It is unbelievable. People really back you if you want to do something cool in town, and I am eternally grateful.”

Since then, Ibrahim worked for Amazon, Urban Outfitters and the Broad Museum.

Though 70 percent of his work is commercial, two personal projects are ongoing at all times. He hasn’t put down the camera for one day since he was 16, he added.

“My approach is like creative Tetris: I’m solving a multivariate problem and seeing how the whole thing fits together. When the elements of composition, location and personality come together it is almost like a drug to me. I do this everyday, because I have an opportunity to do that.”
