FRIDAY, Dec. 21 — Cooley Law School Stadium is dressed to impress with an enchanting display of lights for its last Family Night Holiday Lights of the year.
“The Holiday Lights brings new activity and a new focus to downtown,” director of special events Malinda Barr said. “It fills up the restaurants and parking lots.”
In addition to the lights, the stadium-wide event will feature train rides, ornament making, holiday crafting, cookie decorating, letters to Santa and holiday movie clips on the big screen.
Meanwhile, classic Christmas music will play from the stadium speakers choreographed with the stadium lights.
Holiday Lights started after the stadium purchased a light display from a farmer in Mason who wanted to get out of the light business, Barr said.
To convert the stadium was no easy task. “It took a month. All day, everyday,” she said.
Attendees afraid of the cold should fear not — there will be warming stations with fire pits and s'mores on the Chevy Terrace. And though there is no baseball in the stadium during the winter months, it is a misconception to think the stadium slows down.
“We actually pick up after baseball. It is used for over 250 other events per year. There are a lot of things going on in the ballpark,” Barr said.
Barr said Holiday Lights will definitely be a new tradition for the stadium.
“We hope it will grow and get different every year to encourage people to come back and make it a family tradition,” she said.
On Saturday, Santa will be at the stadium for kids to whisper their holiday wishes to.
