SATURDAY, Jan. 5 — Kari Holmes brings her country charm and roots rock through a pop lens to Tequila Cowboy for the debut of her self-released EP, “You’re My Everything.”
It's the mid-Michigan songwriter’s second album, and Holmes stresses her brand of country music isn’t always about cowboy hats and boots.
“I write a lot of my songs about my own experiences in life and the values instilled in me. Country goes towards things like that.”
Holmes started yodeling when she was four. Among her influences were LeAnne Rimes, N*SYNC, the Backstreet Boys, Shania Twain and a healthy dose of her dad’s favorite classic rock groups.
Her musical career picked up when she was 17.
“I taught myself how to play and sang at coffee shops,” Holmes said. “At 21, I started my own band. Six years later, I’m touring other states. I love it.”
“You’re My Everything” is a collection of new music and some unreleased songs Holmes wrote when she was 17.
“I wrote one about the Las Vegas shooting and a very close couple going through a hard time losing a child,” Holmes said. “I find a lot of people commenting saying it has helped them.”
For $20, attendees can get a VIP package for the night including the new and previous record, a meet and greet as well as a private acoustic performance before the show. The VIP event starts at 7 p.m.
