Vintage shop offers trendy threads

If you’re in the market for vintage jeans, Tshirts, blouses or just retro gear in general, you may want to check out Checkered Past. Owner Amie Woodruff says her new boutique at 210 Abbot Road (second floor) specializes in “recycled fashion” items from the sleeve 1940s to now.

Popular items include band T-shirts, sequined tank-tops, printed long-dress shirts, and patterned scarves and ties. “My whole motto is, ‘Why accept imitation when you can get the real thing?’” Woodruff said. “I get my items from estate sales, referrals and my own private stash. These are high-end vintage items, and I’m not aiming to sell anything for more than $35 or $40.”

Woodruff said most items go for between $6 and $30.

Checkered Past offers a pleasant, intimate environment with oldies rock ‘n’ roll playing in the background and aged trinkets, like a Michael Jackson biography from the ‘80s on display. Tentative hours are 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., but Woodruff hopes to expand those hours to 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
