Like a big, fat glazed beacon (on top of a hill, literally), this former Krispy Kreme once called out to the collective carotid arteries of Mid-Michigan residents offering lovely, deep-fried baked goods. But the mighty donutarium closed in March like a tired ventricle.

Now this place just looks any other boarded-up house or business around town. The trouble with this one is that it glares so much brighter because it’s within throwing distance of the upscale commercial Mecca, Eastwood Towne Center.

Apparently the drive-thru doughnut business didn’t prove lucrative enough during this recession. This Krispy Kreme location wasn’t the only closed: the one in Flint did, too. While you can still get Krispy Kreme products at local grocery and convenience stores, that doesn’t help this building’s condition with its boarded-up windows and barren drive-thru lane.
