Big Apple boozing

Celebration and inebriation coexist in ’Drunken City’

Posted

Three young women from New Jersey have a night to remember when they head into Manhattan for a bachelorette bash in Adam Bock’s comedy "The Drunken City," which Rob Roznowski will direct for Summer Circle Theatre.

Bride-to-be Marnie (Jenn Shafer) descends upon the Big Apple with bridesmaids Linda (Rachel Frawley) and Melissa (Michelle Meredith) in tow. Naturally, a cascade of cocktails follows.

So does a chance meeting with a couple of guys, both of whom have been doing some celebrating of their own. The various connections between the out-of-towners linger long after last call and well into the messiness of the morning after.

Rusty Broughton, Andrew Harvey and Jon Wierenga play the men who complicate the women’s lives.

"The Drunken City" is performed at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, through Saturday, June 19, at the outdoor theater on the banks of the Red Cedar River at Michigan State University. All shows are free.
