Tom Stewart is about to
launch an incubator. But instead of hatching eggs, he hopes to launch a new era
of opportunity for artists.

Stewart is the president
of the Center for New Enterprise Opportunity, the group behind Art Alley, which
is holding an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. Art Alley is located at 1133
S. Washington Avenue in the REO Town neighborhood.

The Friday event showcases
the work of portrait and art photographer Lewis Smith, and will feature hors
d’oeuvres, a cash bar and free parking, as well as a post-show gathering at
Izzo’s Pub and Pizzeria. A $5 donation is suggested.

“This is a start at
bringing REO Town, this once beautiful part of Lansing, back to what it used to
be,” Stewart said in a press release announcing Art Alley.“Our goal is to
expose the community to the community of creative entrepreneurs in

The mission of Art Alley, according to the press release, is
“to foster creativity and entrepreneurship by offering an environment and
infrastructure that cultivates small businesses through unique collaboration
opportunities, affordable space, and support services for growing ventures to
expand to the Greater Lansing community. The NEO Center hopes that by providing
this assistance, they are able to create a community that both supports the
ideals of entrepreneurship and sustains a high level of economic activity.”
