MSU hosts Faculty Biennial show

Artfrom 25 members of Michigan State University’s art faculty will be showcased atthe Faculty Biennial Exhibition, opening Friday, Sept. 10 at the Kresge ArtMuseum.

Theart will encompass everything from paintings and sculptures to comics andelectronic art. Michelle Word, a teaching specialist with the MSU Department ofArt and Art History, said the event would present an opportunity for facultymembers to share what they do with both students and the community.

“Itallows us the opportunity to show how we as artists function within theresearch structure of a Big Ten institution,” Word said.

Themuseum has had a close relationship with the department of art and art historysince its founding in 1959, when faculty members first ran the museum as agallery. According to Word, the exhibition is part of the department’s effortsto maintain that connection and involvement between them.

Theevent is in conjunction with a larger series of research lectures hosted by thedepartment throughout the year, which will give art faculty members a chance topresent scholarly research to the public.

Doorsopen at 7 p.m. The reception will feature speeches from art department chair Tom Bearding; LindaSanford, acting director of the Kresge Art Museum; and Kim Wilcox, MSU Provost.
