Esham brings horror core to Level II

Esham, Detroit’s legendary "horror-core" rapper, will take the stage on Halloween night at Level II Ultra Lounge in Lansing. Since 1987, Esham has been releasing his distinctive brand of “acid rap” and has long had a cult following in the underground hardcore rap scene.

For those interested in hearing tracks from Esham’s new album, “Suspended Animation,” his 14th album, be sure to check out this show. The event will also feature a Halloween costume contest and door prizes.

Advance tickets are $15; the price will be higher at door.

Haunted ‘house’ music and a metal masquerade

If your Halloween isn’t complete without some dark and heavy music, be sure to stop into the Metal Costume Bash this Friday at Mac’s Bar. A roster of metal masters is set to blow out eardrums, including Tres Negroes, Genocya, All Ends Black, Blacktooth Brigade and Omnia Discordia.

Looking to dance your ass off while in costume? This Saturday, Mac’s Bar will be bumping with five of the area’s top DJs. Hosted by the Lansing Electronic Artist Kollective (L.E.A.K.), the night will include performances by GK (laser bass/glitch hop), Rob Perry (tech-house, house, techno), Noah DeSmit (tech-house/house) Disco Girlfriend (electro/house/dubstep) and Roque Ybarra (indie, house, electro).

The Loft of terror

The Loft is hosting two nights Halloween festivities, starting with the Miller Lite Tour of Terror Halloween Party on Saturday. The first place winner of the costume contest will receive a $200 cash prize. The night will also feature live rock music from The JHD, a Sublimeinfluenced funk-rock band from Olivet. Also on the bill is The Trip.

Saturday, Oct. 30 $5 with a costume, 21 and over, 9 p.m.

The Halloween Party continues on Sunday at The Loft with an all ages Halloween-themed rock show by The Outer Vibe, an alternative pop band from Grand Rapids. The band, which features a keytar and trumpet player, is known for high energy shows and flashy clothes. Opening the show is Vinacious, My Imperfect Plan and Broken Silence.

Spooky Spiral events

Spiral Video and Dance Bar is set for two nights of haunting events. Kicking it off is the Hotter Than Halloween party, hosted by 97.5 Now FM. The night will feature the sexiest costume contest, judged by DJ Alabama. First place winner, in both the male and female categories, will receive a $100 cash prize. A number of other prizes and giveaways will happen throughout the night.

Friday, Oct. 29 $5 for 21 and over, $8 for 18-20.

The party continues Saturday at the Haunted Mansion Halloween costume party. Winner of the costume contest will receive a $250 cash prize at midnight. Live music is provided by DJ John Cruz and special shows from Ace Deville and Asio Aviance.

Red-Rum Runners hosts Halloween fun

Lansing’s piano bar Rum Runners gets the party started with the Friday Fright Night on Oct. 29. The Happy Hour Costume Contest will award prizes.

On Saturday, Rum Runners will host the Tour of Terror Night. The first place costume contest winner gets $250, second place $125, and third place takes home a $50 Rum Runners gift card.

On Sunday, Rum Runners celebrates Halloween night with another costume contest: First place wins $125, second place wins $75 and third place wins a $50 Rum Runners gift card. Free Halloween t-shirts will be handed out to the first customers each night.

DJ Butcher cuts it up at X-Cel

Club X-Cel in downtown Lansing will host Massacre: Sexy Ladies Edition Friday. The event will feature a costume contest, and the winner gets a cash prize.

Also set to spin records is DJ Butcher, a Lansing hip hop veteran. Butcher became a pivotal player in the early ‘90s Michigan rap scene after he founded the K.M.C. Kru, a duo best known for the 1991 hit single “Devil Came Up to Michigan.”

Looking for ’Monster Mash’ on vinyl?

For those yet to completely succumb to MP3 downloading, the Lansing Vinyl Record & CD Show will set up shop Saturday, at the University Quality Inn in Frandor (next to Holiday Lanes). The huge show features a mix of vinyl, CDs. music DVDs, band posters, T-shirts, vintage magazines and all sorts of music memorabilia.
