(Thursday, Oct. 28) TheGreater Lansing Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will be presenting its Fifth Annual Autumn Pops Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7 at thePresbyterian Church of Okemos.

“Thebeauty of this concert is the different types of music,” said ElsbethWeidenaar, a retired substitute organist and choir director.

Newto the concert this year is the addition of the Okemos Presbyterian Church BellChoir, directed by Irene Shutt. The bell choir will be accompanied bytuba and clarinet soloists.

“Bellsare unique instruments, but it’s a truly unusual combination to have a bellchoir accompanied by a tuba and a clarinet,” Weidenaar said.

Lansing-basedartists ranging from vocalists to tuba players will exhibit their talents. Thelineup includes a piano and organ duet, as well as performances from RosewindQuintet, which includes a flute, clarinet, French horn, bassoon, and oboe. Theconcert will conclude with an organ and percussion piece played in the style ofMannheim Steamroller, which blends 18th-century music with a rock ‘n’roll feel.

Theconcert is a fundraiser for the American Guild of Organists’ scholarship fund.Scholarships go towards offsetting the costs of organ lessons for organstudents. Last year, the concert drew almost 200 listeners and raisedapproximately $750. Admission to the concert is free, but a free-will offeringwill be taken.
