(Friday, Nov. 5) Noonie, the heroine of "Noonie's Masterpiece in Purple," might seem like your average10-year old, but she’s not. When her father leaves for foreignservice duty, she is left in the care of her aunt, uncle and cousin — who seem less like family and more like evil guardians out to get her.

When Noonie’s artwork isappreciated by her art teacher, the little girl deals with her situation through art. Hermission: creating a masterpiece.

“It’s a comedy-drama," says Bill Gordon, director of the Mid-Michigan Family Theater play. "It has itsfunny moments and its serious moments. We have a cast of 11. They were all selected through auditions. Our leadactress is Erin Ruark. She’s a 10-year-oldfrom Lansing, and she’s doing quite well.”

The play, based on Lisa Railsback's book "Noonie's Masterpiece," opens atMid-Michigan Family Theater this weekend and continues next weekend.
