Turner-Dodge House turns back the clock with ’Dress!’ fund-raiser

The Turner-Dodge House will be transformed for an open-house-style fashion show called “Dress!” on Friday that will bring a glamorous, “Great Gatsby”-esque feel to the historic house.

Hundreds of feet of red, white and black tulle will be draped from the ceilings and stair railings, while a glamorous red carpet will lead up to the front door. A professional photographer will be snapping shots of guests as they arrive.

Coordinator Lisa Wall said the proceeds from the event benefit St. Vincent’s Catholic Charities.

“Everyone’s heart is in this,” Wall said. “It’s not just about fashion. It’s going to be a fun-filled day, but our main goal is to raise money for St. Vincent’s. It’s a nice way for people to do it, and they’ll feel good about what they did that day.”

The event, based around the theme of “five” will feature five fashion shows, five speakers, five salon services and will be open for five hours.

Local celebrities, like former Michigan State University football player T.J. Duckett, will be on site for $5 photo ops.

said she hopes the event will remind people how important it is to get
involved and give back to their community. Guests are encouraged to
bring five items to donate to charity in addition to purchasing their
ticket. Wall said the cost is small compared to what many people spend
on food and clothing every day.

you can go out and spend $25 on a meal out or on some clothes, you can
come to this and not feel like you’re missing out on other items,” Wall
said. “If we don’t do this, who is going to? You can either get on board
and help bring people up, or you can step aside and do nothing. I
believe if people are on the receiving end, they will in turn give back
again. What you put out there is what you get back.”
