'Mrs. Warren's Profession'? Unemployed

Lansing Civic Players cancels Shaw comedy

Posted

(Wednesday, Nov. 10) If you were planning to see George Bernard Shaw's "Mrs. Warren's Profession" this weekend, you might be better off going to Broadway: The Lansing Civic Players production has been canceled.

No reason was given for the abrupt shutdown of the comedy about prostitution in late 19th-century England (the title and show information were still on the theater's marquee as of Wednesday afternoon).

In case you're planning a quick trip to the Big Apple between now and Nov. 28, you can see Cherry Jones and Sally Hawkins in "Mrs. Warren's Profession" at the American Airlines Theatre on W. 42nd St. When it was first performed in New York, a century ago, "Profession" was raided by the police and shut down; there have been no reports of such troubles during the current run, thankfully.
