It’s a holiday double play at Mid-Michigan Family

The Mid-Michigan Family Theatre got such a great response to the first Christmas play it announced that director Bill Gordon decided to offer two shows for the price of one.

"With ’A Place Called Christmas,’ we had a good turnout for auditions," Gordon said. "So, rather than double casting (having different actors play a role at certain performances), we went for another play, and I hope it strikes a good contrast. We have one play that’s more modern and upbeat, and the other that’s more traditional."

“Christmas,” the more contemporary script, is a tale about a toy store that closes on Christmas Eve, with five unsold toys left behind on the shelves. Dolly, Soldier, Teddy, Jacky and a puppet named Woody embark on a journey to find Christmas, which they mistakenly believe is a place. In contrast, “The Perfect Gift” is set in Bethlehem, where a shepherd boy eagerly awaits the arrival of the Christ child.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 19. Tickets are $6 for students and adults; $4 for pre-schoolers. For more information, call (517) 339-2145.
