Not DWB

The State Police came to the correct conclusion: this was not a racist issue ("DWB ’unfounded’" 12/15/10). Let us once again review the facts: Quinney was speeding, and driving in an unsafe manner. The police officer passed him, a sort of non-verbal warning. Ungrateful, and anxious to get to an event, Quinney continued speeding. Eventually the officer, annoyed that Quinney was still speeding even when a police car was clearly visible behind him, pulled Quinney over. When he approached the car, all three Lansing Council members, burgeoning with a strong sense of entitlement, let the officer know just who they were. Unimpressed by their expressions of "specialness", the officer issued one ticket instead of two. Clearly, what we have here, are three people who expected deference from the officer, a driver who broke two traffic laws, and even when the officer was in plain view, continued to break the law. Rather than own up to his failures, Quinney decided to play the race card.

Committed to 4th Ward

Again: I attended 38 City Council committee meetings between January and September 2010 (and other council members attended 10, 11, 28, 29, 32, 55 and 64).

I have requested that I not be assigned to as many committees in 2011 as I was in 2010. It was difficult to keep up with all of the committees I was assigned to and I did my best to pick and chose the meetings I thought were most important. I use my time wisely to serve the people of Lansing’s Fourth Ward and will continue to do so. I have and will continue reach out to labor groups to discuss their concerns about ensuring area standards for wages while revitalizing contaminated and dilapidated property in Lansing. I also continue to welcome feedback, input, ideas and concerns from the people of Lansing’s Fourth Ward. I will continue to stand up for what I believe in and what I believe matters to people in the Fourth Ward and in Lansing. I invite everyone to learn more about the ward at www.lansingsfourthward.com and to contact me at jessica@lansingsfourthward.com, www. facebook.com/jessica.yorko, 517-214-5684, and/or in writing or in person on Mondays at 7pm: 124 W. Michigan Ave, Lansing MI 48933. Happy Holidays!

— Jessica Yorko, Fourth Ward Lansing City Councilwoman
