For those looking to hit the town on New Year’s Eve, a variety of Lansing venues are planning celebrations to usher in 2011. Here are a few of the hot spots hosting special events on Dec. 31. Some venues are taking reservations, so plan ahead.

Mandolins and banjos at Auggie’s

The Grand River Boys, led by Keith Pruitt, will play a set of bluegrass/country music at Auggie’s Pub & Grill. Those who prefer a mandolin and banjo over techno should check out the band’s videos on YouTube. The band is set to play as late as the crowd sticks around. There will also be a free buffet and champagne toast at midnight.

Starfarm rocks ‘80s tunes at Dublin Square

Dublin Square Irish Pub & Restaurant will not only unveil its newly remodeled back bar — featuring new 60" flat screen televisions, more square footage and new sound system and lighting — it’s also host to fun live music by Starfarm (‘80s cover band) and DJ Beats. .

The party will start at 9 p.m. The Times Square ball drop at midnight will be on live feed along with a complimentary celebratory champagne and balloon drop. No advance tickets; however, line skips are available at www.lineskipper.com.

Glitter and glam at Chrome Cat

If you appreciate the fashion sense of David Bowie and Lady Gaga, the New Year’s Eve Fags & Hags Ball at the Chrome Cat might be your spot. The dress for this event is glam or over-the-top fashion. There will also be special performances by the Chrome Cat’s House Divas, a free nacho bar and an assortment of veggies and snacks, drink specials, other free party favors and a champagne toast at midnight.

Uli’s hosts Headbanger’s Ball

Looking to rock hard on New Year’s Eve? Uli’s Haus of Rock will feature DJ Floyd (from midnight to 1 a.m.) playing the hits and hosting a laser show. Prior to that, a variety of rockers takes the stage, including Identity Theft, Elegant Junkies. Hillside Barrier, and Jamboozle. Bands start promptly at 8 p.m.

The Loft hosts ‘Unforgettable’ night

The Loft will be transformed into a whole new room with assistance from Showtime Entertainment and will feature live DJs Cutt-Nice and Space. Suggested attire is dressy casual/cocktail attire.

A $20 table reservation guarantees a table for your party, while a $35 VIP table reservation includes a complimentary bottle of champagne and coat check for up to four people. Tickets are available at The Tin Can in downtown Lansing, Music Manor in Lansing and FBC in East Lansing. Table reservations are available at www. theloftlansing.com or at the Loft box office.

Squid Rock at Green Door

On New Year’s Eve at The Green Door, The Squids will play hits like Bob Seger’s “Main Street” and Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues.” Some perks of the special night include party favors, countdown to midnight, champagne toast and an hors d’oeuvre buffet at midnight. The bar will stay open until 3 a.m and tickets are on sale now.

New Year’s Eve blues

The Harry Oman Band (Lansing), with Tomas Esparza (Grand Rapids harmonica master), will bring in 2011 with smoking hot boogie and blues. Tickets are available now at Leroy’s.

Bring the Ruckus

DJ Ruckus performs at The Post on New Year’s Eve.

The night will also include a champagne toast and buffet. No advance tickets.

DJ Element vs Donnie D at Harem

Harem Urban Lounge is set to host a double DJ bill.

Rihanna impersonator Spirals into Lansing

Spiral Dance Bar will host four DJs and a live vocal performance by a Rihanna impersonator on New Year’s Eve. The party goes until 4 a.m. DJ Alabama will broadcast live on 97.5-FM.

Raving in 2011

This New Year’s Eve, Mac’s will host 2011 Neon New Year, a night featuring some of the hottest DJs, including M.O., Disco Girlfriend, Nix Bouldin, Rocky Ibarra and Xaos. The venue will also offer a chocolate fountain, gourmet hors d’oeuvres, a champagne toast, cheeses of the world and an exotic fruit platter.

Cooling out in East Lansing

Rick’s American Café features the I.C.E. DJs, an East Lansing mobile DJ company that mixes Top 40, hip-hop, house, mash-ups and oldies classics. Tickets include a dinner buffet from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
