Absolute Music ventures into the night Friday

Posted
The lamps of Old Town will glimmer upon an intimate journey through the night — from bedtime stories to brothels — when Absolute Music, greater Lansing’s creative chamber music showcase, returns Friday.

The stops on this wide-ranging nocturnal mission include fairy tale music by Schumann, tango and ragtime from Astor Piazzolla and Scott Joplin, and an unusual, four-hand piano take on Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.”

Digging into his dark bag of poetry, M.C. Ken Beachler will and weave this brocade of night music together with his silver voice.

But the most attractive part of Absolute Music is the chance to get close and personal with an A-Team of Michigan State University and Lansing Symphony musicians, including pianists Deborah Moriarty and Derek Polischuk, Richard Sherman on flute, and Yuri Gandelsman on viola.

Absolute Music: ’Music of the Night’

8 p.m. Friday, March 18. Absolute Gallery 307 E. Grand River Ave., Lansing. $10 suggested donation (517) 482-8845 www.absolutegallery.net
