Enso offers free live jazz three nights a week

Enso, “a global fusion dining establishment,” is a recent addition to the mid-Michigan jazz scene. It offers live jazz Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. Tonight, the Neil Gordon Trio with Earlie Braggs will perform from 7-10 p.m.

Local blues veteran rocks the Green Door 

Kathleen Bolthouse has been gigging around Lansing since the formation of Blues Xpress in the late ‘90s. Her latest band, The Kathleen Bolthouse Band, plays the Green Door Thursday. In 2006 Bolthouse formed The Blues Junkies; shortly afterward the band took second place in the 2007 Capital Area Blues Society Blues Brawl.

Three years later, with the release of its first album “No Way to Live,” The Blues Junkies changed its name to The Veteran drummer Alicia Warrington and former Gore Gore Girls member Marlene Hammerle are the All-Girl Boys Choir.

Kathleen Bolthouse Band and continues to play a mix of traditional and contemporary blues, sultry ballads, soul, swing and rock. The show is free.

All-Girl Boys Choir rock duo amps up Mac’s

Former drummer Alicia Warrington and ex-Gore Gore Girls member Marlene Hammerle make up the duo The All-Girl Boys Choir, playing Mac’s Bar Friday. The band mixes catchy rock hooks with hints of alt-country. The other half of the duo is Marlene Hammerle, formerly of The Gore Gore Girls (Detroit). The band has toured relentlessly in the past year and will soon release “Electric,” a new full-length.

Opening the show will be Lansing indie-rockers Life Size Ghost and Saginaw’s own The Banana Convention.

Local rockers invade downtown East Lansing

Elliot Street Lunatic has kept busy over the past couple years playing its unique brand of spacey-indie rock.

The band plays the Landshark Friday. Sharing the bill are Audrey (Muskegon), Good Weather For Airstrikes (Howell), Bloomill (Mt. Pleasant). Elliot Street Lunatic will record its sophomore album in California this June with producer Casey Crescenzo from The Dear Hunter, a national indie band.

Metal and indie rock share a bill

Blackened Moon Concert Hall is the newest rock venue in Lansing. Its steadily hosted hard and heavy shows, even some indie rock shows; this Friday, it will blend both genres. Headliners The Ideamen are progressive indie rock from Chicago on Rotten Records. Openers include a roster of locals, including Mr. Denton on Doomsday, Genocya, Blacktooth Brigade, Mouth Sown Shut, Chaos n Confusion, and Crochetcatpause.

Archie Fisher and Garnet Rogers at the Fiddle

Folk duo Archie Fisher and Garnet Rogers play the Ten Pound Fiddle Friday. In addition to being known as a Scottish folk singer/songwriter and outstanding guitar player, Fisher is widely recognized as the host of the BBC’s award-winning “Travelling Folk” on Radio Scotland. The show has been presented for over 25 years.

Heavy hitters crash Uli’s Haus of Rock

Uli’s Haus of Rock is another local venue that’s been keeping busy. This Saturday, its usual brand of hard rock will take the stage, including Sin Theorem, Medisin Wheel, Silent Divide, Battle Cross, From Blue to Grey and Chemical Crutch.
