First Ward City Councilman Eric Hewitt announces he will not run for a second term

Posted
Tuesday, May 10 — First Ward Lansing City Councilman Eric Hewitt said today that he will not seek re-election.

Hewitt said in a telephone interview he will not run. The filing deadline is today.

Hewitt said he wants to pursue personal and professional interests.

Hewitt said last week he planned to run again. He said today that after “talking with family and friends” it “became a reality I need to step aside.”

Hewitt works full time as a financial analyst for the state Department of Human Services.

Those who have filed to run in the First Ward are Sarah Surface-Evans, Philip Damico, Harold Leeman Jr., Joe Manzella and Jody Washington. Former state Rep. Lynn Martinez has said she will run.

Check Wednesday’s City Pulse for a rundown on who is running for City Council.
