Wednesday, May 25 — On most summer days, a lazy mix of overfed squirrels and chubby river ducks can be found peacefully meandering the calm grounds of Michigan State University in the absence of the school year rush.

However, this past weekend, vibrant colors, live music and the cheerful commotion of a huge gathering of people filled the air outside the MSU union. On Saturday and Sunday, artists from across the nation got together for the 47th annual MSU spring arts and crafts show.

The arts and crafts show occurred simultaneously with, but is separate from, the East Lansing Art Festival.

The weekend festival featured more than 300 booths with handmade items including yard decorations, paintings, jewelry, home goods and clothing. On average, more than 60,000 people attend this huge fundraiser event each year, which is held by the MSU University Activities Board to raise money for events and activities for MSU students.
